Three retired miners from Zverevo went on a hunger strike against overstated tariffs on housing and communal services in the town

Today three retired miners from the town of Zverevo, Rostov region, went on an open-ended hunger strike against the tariffs on heating and water supply which they considered overstated. According to the protesters, the action is held in their places of residence.

The participants of the hungers strike are: Stanislav Karpov aged 71, disabled, having 36 years record of service, Sergey Velikanov, also disabled, 12 years record of excavation works, and Valery Dyakonov aged 61, 18 years record of excavation works.

“The reason for the hunger strike is the officials’ inaction in solving the problem of overstated tariffs on heating, water supply, all kinds of losses depriving the people of federal and local privileges, arbitrariness of Mayor who for half a year has avoided meetings with the pressure group in order to solve these problems. The goal of the hunger strike is also drawing attention of Governor of the region to 62 retired miners left without coal ration for the winter. The protesters will go on hunger strike until the demands made by the pressure group are granted”, a statement issued by the group of protesting retired miners runs.

It also runs that the action is going in the participants’ places of residence in order to avoid repression against an owner of a premises in case if the hunger strike was held in an integrated place.
