AI supports advocate from Kabardino-Balkaria
The international organization "Amnesty International" (AI) has urged the Russian authorities to investigate reports of threats received by Magomed Abubakarov, an advocate from the Advocates' Chamber "Nizam", who works in Kabardino-Balkaria.
The "Amnesty International" emphasizes that advocate Magomed Abubakarov became well-known due to his human rights activities in Northern Caucasus.
According to the information of the human rights organizations, one of his clients was Rasul Kudaev, a former prisoner of Guantanamo.
"Advocates who in Northern Caucasus and, in particular, in Kabardino-Balkaria, take cases involving the prosecution of law enforcement agents for committing violations of human rights are being persecuted," states the message posted on the website of the "Amnesty International".
On February 11, 2013, Magomed Abubakarov, the advocate from the Advocates' Chamber "Nizam", filed to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria a complaint about threats. The advocate does not exclude that the threats were voiced by law enforcement agents.
In accordance with the law, the complaint is to be considered within 10 days, i.e., till February 21. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Nazir Dyshekov, Chief of the Nalchik UVD (Interior Department).
