MIA: 54 persons detained at unsanctioned rally in Stavropol

In Stavropol, during and after the rally of nationalists, 54 persons were detained by policemen.

At night on February 7, in Stavropol, at the shopping centre (SC) "Moscow", near a nightclub, a fight occurred that involved nine persons. According to the information of the police, the conflict involved natives of Ingushetia and local residents. Maxim Spasibov, a 27-year-old Cossack, got a knife wound. By the morning of February 8, the police managed to detain the main suspect and then two more alleged participants of the mass fight.

Today, in the centre of Stavropol, the nationalists have planned to hold two people's gatherings and to demand that the authorities should resolve the problem of "ethnic crime" in the region. About 20 persons, including Oksana Borisova, a well-known blogger, were detained when they tried to carry out the gathering.

At the special briefing that was held in the building of the Stavropol OMVD (Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)) in the evening of February 9, Police Colonel Evgeny Nujkin, Chief of the Stavropol OMVD, stated that policemen detained 54 persons at unsanctioned actions in Stavropol, which took place at Castle Hill and Lenin Square.

In the evening of February 8, Ingush President Yunus-Bek Evkurov arrived in Stavropol. At the conference room of the Stavropol Agricultural University, he held a meeting with students from Ingushetia. After the meeting, Yunus-Bek Evkurov has emphasized that he had brought his personal apology to relatives of Maxim Spasibov.
