Police official killed in Chechnya's Achkhoy-Martan district

Unknown people shot down Chersi Gatayev, deputy chief of the Achkhoy-Martan district police department, and his driver on March 19. A car with the two men was attacked on a road between the settlements of Davidennko and Noviy Sharoy.

"The chief of the Achkhoy-Martan district criminal police, Chersi Gatayev, and his driver, Ruslan Inderbiyev, were killed at about 12:20 p.m. Gatayev was making his way to the area of the Samashki village, where a group of unknown criminals had fired on a group of power engineering specialists from the Stavropol region earlier. The police officers were ambushed by the bandits and were shot down almost point-blank from automatic rifles and underbarrel grenade-launchers," a source at the Achkhoy-Martan district police department said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent.

Criminal investigation into the crime has been launched.
