Tbilisi opens free training courses of Russian language and history
On February 4, Tbilisi opened free-of-charge courses of the Russian language and history. According to Archil Chkoidze, the chairman of the NGO "Irakli II Society", at present, the number of those who wish to study the Russian language in Georgia has increased dramatically.
In total, 130 people were recruited; according to their interviews, they were split into 6 groups of trainees. During the study, they will periodically take midterm exams; and at the end of the project on the basis of the final test they will receive certificate, Archil Chkoidze said on February 1 at a press conference held at the Tbilisi International Press Centre of the RIA "Novosti".
The above NGO is organizing studies of Russian in Georgia for the fourth consecutive year.
Starting from the 2010-2011 school year, schools in Georgia have introduced mandatory learning of English; while lessons of Russian are now within extracurricular activities. Besides, Georgian schools have stopped teaching subjects in Russian.
