Suspect of killing Vice-Premier of Karachay-Cherkessia tortured, his relatives assert
Atam Achmiz, a resident of Adygea, suspected of killing Vice-Premier of Karachay-Cherkessia Ansar Tebuev, is tortured at the IVS (temporary detention facility) of the city of Cherkessk, his relatives report.
On June 20, his mother Marietta Achmiz sent applications to the head of the ICRF, General Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Minister of Justice, and the Russian Ombudsman.
She asked to organize a travel prosecutor's inspection of "the beatings and humiliation of Atam Achmiz and the fact of non-admission of the advocate to his client."
The application were caused by the information received by relatives from an anonymous source, Lilet Achmiz, a member of the local Bar, who is representing the interests of Atam Achmiz and who is his relative, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to the HRC "Memorial", Russian Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin sent a letter to the Republic's Public Prosecutor with a demand to conduct a check of the information reported by the lawyer.
Atam Achmiz was serving his sentence in the Kurgan Region for his crimes committed under Articles 222, Part 1 (illegal possession and sale of weapons), and 205.1 (facilitating terrorist activities) of the Russian Criminal Code. Under the verdict of the Takhtamukay District Court, in 2009, he was sentenced to 4.5 years of imprisonment in a general security colony.
