In Armenia, participants of action speak against use of violence against women

Today, in Yerevan, the NGO "Women's Resource Centre" initiated an action in support of women in India, who had suffered from violence.

The action was caused by death of a 23-year-old Indian student who became a victim of sexual abuse and who died in hospital at night on December 29, 2012.

The action held in front of the Indian Embassy in Armenia was attended by about 20 persons. The organizers of the action lit candles in memory of the deceased student.

The participants of the action passed a letter to Mr Achal Kumar Malhotra, Ambassador of India to Armenia, in which they expressed their concern over the incident and the situation in general with regard to the attitude towards women in India. In their letter, the initiators of the action demanded that the Government of India should take appropriate actions to identify and punish the criminals.

The incident with the student was not a single case in India, "therefore, it is high time to raise the issue to prevent the crimes in any way," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Sevak Kirakosyan, a participant of the action.
