PACE delegation is concerned about the absence of interest to the election in Armenia
PACE delegation who visited Armenia issued a statement expressing concern about the process of presidential election in the country. Representatives of the authorities are disappointed with this statement.
The goal of the visit of the delegation of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe on January, 16-17, was familiarizing with the pre-election process in the country.
Upon the results of the visit PACE delegation issued a statement expressing concern about the absence of public interest to the election process for the major political parties did not nominate their candidates because of distrust to the election appointed on February, 18.
Leader of Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan, leader of “Prosperous Armenia” party Gagik Tsarukyan and leaders of ARFD will not participate in the election.
This decision narrowed the electors’ choice which resulted in a regrettable situation because the election was overshadowed with apathy and distrust which was mentioned in the statement.
The management of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia are upset with the statement of PACE, “First Armenian Informational” media reports.
“This statement is very far from being objective. I will soon deliver a special report on the issue”, Head of Armenian delegation in PACE David Arutiunyan declared.
