Public Prosecutor’s office of Georgia exculpated Okruashvili from the charge of creation of a paramilitary group
During trial on the case of ex-Minister of Defense of Georgia Irakly Okruashvili Public Prosecutor’s office withdrew a charge of creation of a paramilitary group brought against him, the defendant’s attorney Zviad Kordzadze reported.
“Today the prosecution party interrogated Irakly Okruashvili. He confirmed that he was going to return to Georgia in May of 2011 but without arms and by no means from the direction of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) as followed from the materials of the case. Public Prosecutor’s office declared withdrawing charges concerning Okruashvili as well as six more persons accused of involvement in creation of a paramilitary group for lack of evidence of their guilt”, Kordzadze informed.
Charges of money laundering, service negligence and creation a paramilitary group were brought against Okruashvili who received political asylum in France but returned to Georgia in November of 2012. Earlier, Public Prosecutor’s office withdrew all the charges against Okruashvili except the last one.
