Armenia stops receiving applications from presidential candidates

Today, Armenia has completed the nomination procedure of president candidates; now, on January 4-14, the Central Election Commission (CEC) will register them.

"The CEC has stopped receiving applications; and we have seven candidates: Serzh Sargsyan, the incumbent President of Armenia and the leader of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia; Raffi Ovannisyan, the leader of the 'Heritage' Party; Grant Bagratyan, the head of the 'Freedom' Party, a breakaway from the Armenian National Congress (ANC); Paruir Airikyan, the head of the Association 'National Self-Determination'; Arman Melikyan, the former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh; Andrias Ghukasyan, the head of the LLC 'Radio I'; and a nonpartisan Vardan Sedrakyan," the author of the blog "Armenian Chronicles"on the "Caucasian Knot"named Kornelij writes.

Other contenders for the title of a presidential candidate dropped out of the race by failing to pay the pledge, the "Deutsche Welle" reports.
