OCCRP recognizes President of Azerbaijan man of the year
According to the ranking presented by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), in 2012 the most corrupt official was the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev.
The "winner" was elected by 60 journalists from 20 countries. Apart from Ilham Aliev, the list of the most corrupt officials includes the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Aliev's family is systematically capturing the most profitable businesses in the country. It's no secret that his family members own shares in country's major enterprises, including banks, construction and telecom companies. His clan is also secretly buying property abroad," says the website of the OCCRP.
The aim of the OCCRP is to inform readers around the world about how the organized crime and corruption operate, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.
