Picket in defence of journalist Tolmachov held in Rostov-on-Don

Residents of Rostov-on-Don have come to the picket in support of Alexander Tolmachov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "I'm Authorized to State".

Tolmachov is accused of extorting a million roubles from a Novocherkassk businessman. The court chose to restrict his freedom by putting him in custody and later many times extended his custody by two months.

The action in defence of Alexander Tolmachov was held on December 28 in front of the regional courthouse, the "Business Quarter. Rostov" reports.

His colleagues and rights defenders are treating the Tolmachov's case as a revenge of the authorities and law enforcement bodies, whose employees more than once became "heroes" of his newspaper, said Vyacheslav Altukhov, an activist of the Rostov NGO "People's Legal Control".

The picket was attended by five persons, the edition named "161.ru" reports.
