Residents of Dagestani village of Sogratl intend to build a new mosque instead of the burnt one

At night on December 24, a fire burst out in the village mosque in Sogratl, Gunib District of Dagestan. As a result, the building of the mosque was completely destroyed; the locals are going to build a new one.

The district law enforcers have confirmed the fact of fire, noting that its reasons are being studied.

The burned mosque was the central and the only one in the village. The construction of a new one will be funded by local residents and village natives.

"This coming Saturday, a subbotnik will be held in the place of the fire: people will clear the site. Also, in the coming days the public will decide on the contractor and the design of the future mosque," Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the socio-political weekly "Chernovik", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
