Former Prime Minister Grant Bagratyan states his intention to run for presidency

Grant Bagratyan, a member of the oppositional parliamentary faction "Armenian National Congress" (ANC) and the former Prime Minister, has announced, on his Facebook page, his intention to take part in the presidential election. Bagratyan also said that he would suspend his cooperation with the ANC in order not to hamper the organization.

Grant Bagratyan, who is also the chairman of the party named "Azatyutyun" (Freedom), wrote on his page that on December 24 his party would hold a congress, which will consider only one point – his nomination as a presidential candidate.

At the same time, Mr Bagratyan said that in case the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan decided to take part in the race, he would recall his nomination. "If Ter-Petrosyan decides to run for the post, then I'll give up my intention, should my candidature have been already nominated. Please note that I'll run not from the ANC," said Bagratyan.

Bagratyan was Prime Minister (1992-96) when Levon Ter-Petrosyan was President.
