In Ingushetia, local resident's relatives state his illegal detention

Beslan Tsechoev, a villager of Sagopshi, Malgobek District of Ingushetia, was detained by the police without explanation, his relatives assert. They fear that the man will be exposed to illegal methods of physical pressure, noting that earlier similar cases had already happened.

Tsechoev was detained in the morning on December 17, at about 10:00 a.m. Policemen from the Malgobek ROVD (District Interior Division) came to his home and asked to follow them to the ROVD for conversation, without explaining the topic. The young man's mother refused to let her son go to the police, promising that he would come to the ROVD later with his brother, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

After a while, the Tsechoevs were called by their distant relative, the acting chief of the Criminal Search of the Malgobek ROVD, who also asked Beslan to come to the ROVD, assuring his family that they had no reason to worry; and then, Beslan Tsechoev went to the ROVD, accompanied by two relatives.

The relatives remained waiting for him in the street, but after a few hours the young man did not come out of the ROVD. As it turned out, he was placed into the IVS (temporary detention centre) of the Malgobek ROVD.

On December 20, Tsechoev's brother appealed to the HRC "Memorial" for help in protecting the rights and interests of his brother, fearing that unlawful physical would be applied to Beslan.
