Residents of Northern Caucasus are sceptical about "end of the world"

On the eve of December 21, some residents of the regions of Northern Caucasus feared the predicted "doomsday" and prepared for it; however, it was not of a mass character. Muslim clerics, while noting that Islam has a concept of the "judgment day", said that there is no evidence of this event.

December 21, 2012, was spoken by many people in the world as the "end of the world". Under the calendar of the ancient Mayan Indians, on this day, the end of the so-called Long Count Cycle of the Age of the Fifth Sun was expected. The above calendar breaks on December 21, which gave pessimists the reason to believe that the ancient Mayans had predicted the end of the world.

Nobody is seriously talking about the coming "end of the world", said Aminat, a seller of one of the grocery stores in the city of Cherkessk: "Buyers jokingly refer to these predictions."

The Muslims who pray and follow other religious prescriptions do not believe the reports that December 21 will be the "end of the world", said Abdullah Ukkuev, the imam of the mosque of the village of Chapayevskoye in the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).

Mukhtar Seifudinov, a resident of Derbent, recollects that he was preparing to see the "end of the world" back in 2000. "There were different theories – from a global flood, caused by warming, up to an asteroid. Later, I understood that these fears were warmed up by "yellow" media and scientists in seek of doubtful glory."
