In Krasnodar, Mikhail Savva faces new charge of fraud

Mikhail Savva, Director of Grant Programmes of the South Regional Resource Centre (SRRC), a teacher of the Kuban State University, is suspected of another episode of fraud. Mikhail Savva is pleaded not guilty. This was reported by the advocate of the Professor.

The criminal case against Mikhail Savva was initiated under Article "Fraud in obtaining payments committed by person using his or her official position and on a large scale" (Part 3 of Article 159.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The Article stipulates the maximum penalty of up to 6 years of imprisonment.

Investigators believe that Mikhail Savva ordered a case study and paid for it not from the grant, but from other (unidentified) sources, and thus he embezzled state fund, the "Lenta.ru" reports.

On May 14, media reported on the initiation of the second criminal case against Mikhail Savva. The second case was initiated under the same Article as the first criminal case. Although, the second criminal case was initiated under its milder part under Part 1, which stipulates the maximum penalty of up to 2 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigators' version, Mikhail Savva, being Professor of the Kuban State University, allegedly received about 90,000 roubles for teaching the course, which he in fact did teach, the "Interfax-Yug" reports.

Advocate Marina Dubrovina, who represent the interests of Mikhail Savva, and her client treat the charges as groundless, the "Yuzhny Federalny" reports.

Elena, the wife of Mikhail Savva, believes that the only reason for the initiation of one more criminal case is the desire to extend the period of her husband's arrest. "It is clear that was done to extend the period of detention in custody," the "Live Kuban" quotes Elena Savva as saying.
