Activists disrupt another attempt to demolish unloading dock in Volgograd Region
On May 11, activists of the informal movement in defence of the unloading dock prevented the destruction of the historic building, located in the farmyard of Bobry near the city of Krasnoslobodsk.
On April 24, a group of young activists from the Volgograd Region launched a campaign demanding to abandon the plans of demolition of the old building, a river attraction of the region – the unloading dock.
The unloading dock, or a jetty (can be used as a floating river station), was used for a certain period of time as a rowing base of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Culture; it is now on its balance sheet. Currently, the dock is in a dilapidated condition. The informal youth movement appeared after the plans of the Academy to demolish the historic buildings because of the impossibility to restore it became known.
Today in the morning, the contractor who is obliged – under his contract – to demolish the unloading dock before May 20, has come to the site. Along with him, four workers with special equipment arrived at the dock and began fastening ropes to break the truss structures of the object.
At that time, there were five activists there, who lined up as a "live wall" near the building and prevented the contractor to follow through, the "AIF-Volgograd" reports.
The campaigners in defence of the unloading dock managed to get through by telephone to senior leadership of the Volgograd Academy of Physical Culture, who ordered to suspend the demolition, the publication named "V1" reports.
