Number of victims in railway accident in Belaya Kalitva increases to 44 persons
The number of victims suffered in the emergency situation arising because of the railway accident, which occurred at the station Belaya Kalitva in the Rostov Region, reached 44 persons, and 17 persons were hospitalized. This updated information was reported by the Chief Department of the Regional Ministry for Emergencies (MfE).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on May 9, at the station Belaya Kalitva, 51 railway tanks with oil products went off the rails. In one of the tanks, propane has exploded. Fire that arose in the place of the accident threatened residential buildings near the station, and residents were evacuated. The fire was extinguished at 07:15 a.m. According to the information of the Southern Regional Emergency Centre of Russia valid for 12:00 a.m., 29 persons sought medical treatment, and 15 persons were hospitalized.
According to the information of the Chief Department of the Ministry for Emergencies for the Rostov Region valid for 08:00 p.m., out of 44 persons affected by the accident, 17 persons were hospitalized, including 7 persons who were hospitalized to the Central Regional Hospital of the Belaya Kalitva District, and 10 persons were directed to the burn centre of the Emergency Hospital No. 2 in Rostov-on-Don. 27 victims have been rendered medical treatment in the place, and they do not need hospitalization. No one died in the accident.
In Belaya Kalitva, the commission works to consider complaints and appeals of citizens on social issues. On May 9, the commission inspected 205 apartments out of 341 apartments to be inspected.
Works on pumping propane are scheduled for May 10. On the same day, residents living in Vokzalnaya and Krasnopartizanskaya Streets will be evacuated. Upon completion of the works, the local residents will be able to return to their apartments and houses, the website of the Regional Department of the MfE reports.
