Mother of resident of South Ossetia convicted in Georgia stops hunger strike

In Tskhinvali, after six days of hunger strike, Lyudmila Usovich, the mother of Georgy Zasseev, a citizen of South Ossetia, who is serving his life sentence in Gldani Prison No. 8 in Georgia. The mother went on her hunger strike in solidarity with her son and other prisoners who did the same at the jail.

As reported by Lira Kozaeva, the leader of the "Association of South-Ossetian Women for Democracy and Human Rights", Ms Usovich refused, since April 15, to eat, and only frank water.

Lyudmila Usovich told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Georgy Zasseev had stopped his hunger strike in Georgia.

"My son has stopped, along with other prisoners in Georgia, the hunger strike, which lasted a total of 11 days. I stood for only six days; then my health began to deteriorate. My son called me and said that they were visited by the Minister of Corrections of Georgia Sozar Subari. According to Georgy, the official promised them to hold a more detailed meeting on Monday, April 29. They were promised that their cases will be reviewed," said Usovich.

In her turn, Lira Kozaeva, the chair of the "Association of South-Ossetian Women for Democracy and Human Rights", addressed the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili with an open letter asking to facilitate the transfer of the remaining South-Ossetian prisoners kept in Georgia to their mothers.
