In January, 62 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

At least 62 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus in January 2013; of them, 39 persons perished and 23 more were wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The above statistics is unable to reflect, with a 100-percent precision, the number of victims under each of the categories specified in the report. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the truthfulness of the statements made by law-enforcement bodies.

The leader by the number of victims is Dagestan - within the month 24 persons suffered there, including 10 killed and 14 wounded persons. In the course of special operations against members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), and as a result of attacks and diversion-terror acts two employees of law-enforcement bodies were lost and eight more received wounds of various gravity. In the course of armed clashes and special operations, four persons suspected of involvement in the armed underground were killed, and one more was wounded. As a result of attacks of unidentified persons four civilians perished, and two more were wounded.

In Chechnya, 22 persons suffered - 14 persons perished, and eight were wounded. In the course of a special operation 12 persons, treated as militants were killed. Two employees of law-enforcement bodies were killed and eight more were wounded.

In Kabardino-Balkaria fell victim to the conflict 13 persons, including 12 casualties and one wounded person. As a result of an attack of unidentified persons one law enforcer was lost, and one policeman was wounded at detention of a suspected IAF member. In the course of special operations and operative-search actions, 11 persons, suspected of involvement in IAFs, were liquidated. In January, there were no victims among civilians in the territory of the KBR.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, three persons suffered from the conflict in January - two supposed militants and a civilian; all of them perished. According to the data of the MIA of the KChR, a member of the armed underground murdered another IAF member and a civilian; later, he opened fire at the police station and was killed at detention.

In January, there were no victims of the armed conflict in Ingushetia, North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report. Among the victims have been Abubakar Mestoev and Umar Chichaev, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Northern Caucasus, reports Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
