In December, 62 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

At least 62 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus in December 2012; of them, 41 persons perished and 21 more were wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The above statistics is unable to reflect, with a 100-percent precision, the number of victims under each of the categories specified in the report. Not all the data gets into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the truthfulness of the statements made by law-enforcement bodies.

The leader by the number of victims is Dagestan. During the month, 33 persons suffered there, including 19 killed and 14 wounded persons. In the course of special operations against members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), as well as a result of attacks and diversion-terror acts, one power agent was killed and 11 employees of law-enforcement bodies received wounds of various gravity. In the course of armed clashes and special operations, 14 persons, suspected of involvement in the armed underground, were killed, one more person was wounded. As a result of attacks of unidentified persons perished four civilians, two more were wounded.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, 17 persons suffered, including 13 killed and four wounded persons. In the course of operations and operative-search actions one law enforcer was lost; three employees of law-enforcement bodies more were wounded. During special operations, eight persons, suspected of involvement in IAFs, were killed. As a result of attacks of unidentified persons four civilians perished and one civilian more received wounds.

In Ingushetia, eight persons suffered- six were killed, and two more were wounded. As a result of armed clashes and at conducting counterterrorist operations, one employee of the FSB was wounded; while six supposed IAF members were killed. As a result of a militants' attack one civilian was wounded.

In Chechnya, three persons suffered - two persons were lost, and one more was wounded. In the course of a special operation, employees of law-enforcement bodies found bodies of two dead militants. One law enforcer was wounded in the course of operative and search actions.

In North Ossetia, one civilian was lost - Deputy Mufti of North Ossetia Ibragim Dudarov was shot dead in the outskirt of Vladikavkaz by unidentified persons.

During the past month, there were no victims of the armed conflict in Karachay-Cherkessia and in the Stavropol Territory.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report. Among the victims have been Abubakar Mestoev and Umar Chichaev, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Northern Caucasus, reports Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.
