In Krasnodar, Mikhail Savva's advocates appeal against his arrest
The defence of Professor Mikhail Savva, suspected of embezzling public funds, has filed an appeal against the court decision to arrest him for two months.
The advocates ask the court to change the pre-trial restriction against Mikhail Savva to another form of the pre-trial restriction, not related to the custody, the "Interfax" quotes Elena, the wife of Mikhail Savva, as saying.
According to Elena Savva, the appeal can be considered by the Regional Court on April 24.
Advocate Marina Dubrovina has confirmed filing the appeal against the decision about the arrest.
"We have appealed the court decision at the Regional Court, and we insist on any pre-trial restriction measure not involving deprivation of liberty," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the advocate as saying.
The investigation into the case against Mikhail Savva was taken under control by Anatoly Kucherena, Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber (PC) of Russia on security of citizens and interaction with the judicial and law enforcement system.
"We will request all the materials on the case against Mikhail Savva, and we will monitor the legality of all procedures during the process," Anatoly Kucherena has noted. He has emphasized that many members of the OP positively characterize the professor, his activity in the field of public monitoring of penitentiary places, and his human rights and scientific activities, the "Yugopolis" reports.
