In Grozny, reconstruction of 12 blocks completed, new residents report dampness in houses

The Oktyabrsky District of Grozny, the Chechen capital, opened the 12th block, where large-scale reconstruction works were carried out since October 2012. During 2.5 months, more than 200 private houses were built there; and communication lines were laid.

"Residents of the 12th block welcomed the New Year in new houses. It took them only 2.5 months to build 232 private houses; each of them has four spacious rooms, a large kitchen and a bathroom," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told in the administration of the Chechen capital.

According to the city authorities, at the start of the reconstruction, the 12th block was inhabited by more than 1000 persons. 12 families received new flats in central Grozny; and the authorities built individual houses for the others. The opening ceremony of the 12th block was held on December 29.

Local residents note that the houses built for them are quite spacious and comfortable; however, at the same time, the houses are damp.

"The house is very damp. We have installed a couple of electric heaters; however, we still smell cement and lasting moisture everywhere. We hope that everything will gradually dry out; however, at present, we are glad about new houses, though there are still concerns," said one of the local residents, who preferred to remain anonymous.

However, developers argue that the construction of houses was carried out in compliance with all construction regulations and supervision of the special commission.
