Maikop residents commemorate victims of local conflicts
Today, Adygea marks the Memory Day of soldiers who died in local conflicts. The capital of the republic has hosted the mourning rally that was attended by veterans of the 131st Motorized Rifle Brigade, relatives and friends of the victims, representatives of the authorities, Cossacks and the clergy.
Starting from 1996, on January 2, every year, Adygea marks the Memory Day of soldiers who died in local conflicts. For Adygea, this day coincides with the mournful date of the 18th anniversary of the death of the soldiers of the 131st Maikop Motorized Rifle Brigade during the military operations to restore constitutional order in Chechnya.
On January 2, 1995, most of the servicemen from the detachment, sent to the Chechen capital from the 131st Maikop Motorized Rifle Brigade, were killed, including practically all the officers of the unit, its commander Colonel Ivan Savin, Officer Alexei Pulikovskiy, the son of the plenipotentiary envoy of the Far Eastern Federal District. The oldest man was 50 years old, the youngest one was 18, and the average age of the casualties was 20 years old.
Today, the participants of the rally recollected the names of all the militaries killed on January 2, 1995, in Grozny and in other local conflicts. The surnames of about 250 soldiers are engraved on granite slabs of the memorial, the "Yuga.ru" reports.
