The court left ex-Vice-premier of Volgograd region Pavel Krupnov in custody

Today the Panel of judges for criminal cases of Volgograd regional court brought a standing judgement on preventive punishment in form of arrest concerning ex-Vice-premier of the Government of Volgograd region Pavel Krupnov suspected of bribe-taking.

Krupnov was detained on January, 6, for suspicion of receiving 17 million roubles from a businessman for rendering aid in concluding a contract on repair of an oncologic dispensary.

On January, 14, Pavel Krupnov’s defence appealed against his arrest. Lawyer Marina Uskova declared that her client suffered from a number of diseases. The court established that they were not on the list of diseases disallowing keeping a person in custody. Besides, the court specified the end of his custody term as March, 6.

Krupnov is accused according to clause “Bribe-taking on an especially large scale”, state prosecutor Evgeny Kurovsky told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. “Minimum penalty stipulated by this clause is 15 years of imprisonment and a fine multiple to the sum of bribe, i.e. 3 billion roubles. At the discretion of the court the punishment may by a conditional one taking into consideration the Krupnov returned part of the money misappropriated”, he explained.

On January, 14, Head of Investigative department of Committee of Inquiry in Volgograd region Mikhail Murzaev said that the official confessed to the crime and started collaboration with the investigation and his wife returned 15 million roubles.
