“Musavat” party laid the responsibility for assault at its representatives in Lenkoran on the authorities of Azerbaijan

“Musavat” party laid the responsibility for assault at its head Isa Gambar and other leaders of the organization committed on January, 13, in the town of Lenkoran on the authorities of Azerbaijan.

The cortиge of the opposition consisting of five cars was blocked by other vehicles from both sides and the crowd started insulting the oppositionists and threatening them. The people who gathered used violence against some members of “Musavat”.

In Gambar’s opinion, the assault was a designed provocation. In spite of the fact that the trip to Lenkoran for a party action was not announced in mass media or on social networks, the authorities were well aware of the route of “Musavat” delegation, Gambar emphasized at a press conference. The police took no measures to prevent outrage of the aggressive crowd, Gambar said.

He laid the responsibility for the incident on President Ilham Aliev and Head of his Administration Ramiz Mehtiev.

The ruling party “Eni Azerbaijan” denied the authorities’ involvement in the assault at members of “Musavat”. Mubariz Gurbanly, Deputy Executive Director of the party and deputy of the Parliament, considers that “the opposition’s hasty statements on the issue and its far-reaching conclusions pursue the goal of receiving political dividends from the incident”.

The Ministry of Interior Affairs of Azerbaijan expressed its position by a brief comment from Head of Press Service Sadig Gezalov: “The information of the incident with the management of “Musavat” party came on the hotline MIA-102 yesterday. The respective bodies were ordered to look into the matter. Upon the results of the investigation the incident will be given legal treatment”, Gezalov said.
