In Georgia, 70 Gldani prisoners go on hunger strike
On April 15, the hunger strike was announced by 70 inmates of Gldani Prison No. 8 in Georgia, who demand reconsideration of their cases.
According to Irakli Kordzaya, the head of the press service of the Ministry for Corrections, Probation and Legal Assistance of Georgia, the action is held by prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment.
"Reconsideration of prisoners' cases is the prerogative of the investigatory agency - we ensure their safety and take care of their health. Investigation is not our business. The prosecutor's office will act as it sees it necessary," the "Georgia-Online" quotes Irakli Kordzaya as saying
The hunger-strikers also demand better custody conditions; in particular, they demanded to provide them with more frequent meetings with relatives.
The above Ministry is ready to meet the latter demand of the prisoners, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports with reference to the above source.
