Court arrests Mikhail Savva for two months

Today, the Oktiabrskiy District Court of Krasnodar has considered the issue of freedom restriction in relation to Mikhail Savva, the director of grant programmes of the Southern Regional Resource Centre (SRRC) and ruled to arrest him for two months.

Mikhail Savva was detained on April 12; and a criminal case was opened against him. According to the FSB Department, he was involved in embezzling the budget funds allocated by the administration of Krasnodar Territory in the form of a grant. The staff of the SRRC believes that Savva was prosecuted because of his criticism addressed to the special agents who had inspected NPOs.

According to Andrei Savchenko, Mikhail Savva's advocate, the court found the petition of the investigation on putting his client into custody reasonable and granted it, leaving Savva behind bars until June 13.

Today, the courthouse was approached by the students, whom Professor Savva was to lecture today. Students protested against Savva's detention.
