Clashes in Yerevan of Ovannisyan's supporters with the police
Today, supporters of Raffi Ovannisyan have held an action in Freedom Square named "Inauguration of New Armenia" as an alternative to the inauguration ceremony of Serzh Sargsyan, the official winner of the presidential election.
After the action Ovannisyan organized a rally and a march to the presidential residence. Bagramyan Avenue was blocked by the police; and a scuffle burst out; four activists were detained.
During the scuffle, Armen Martirosyan, Vice-Chairman of the "Heritage"Party, who is heading the list of the bloc "Hello, Yerevan"at the elections of the Board of Elders of Yerevan, suffered. His nose was damaged.
Raffi Ovannisyan called the police to open the avenue. When the police did it, Ovannisyan's supporters marched along it chanting: "Independent Armenia!" Ovannisyan called on all protesters to meet in Freedom Square and then go home.
