26 convicts in one of the prisons of Tbilisi went on a hunger strike

26 convicts of prison No 9 of Tbilisi started a hunger strike in support of the people removed from the list of political prisoners, Press Service of the “Georgian party” reported.

On December, 5, the Parliament of Georgia officially acknowledged 190 persons serving custody term political prisoners and 25 more received the status of political refugees.

Among those who went on a mass hunger strike there are people included into the list of political prisoners by the Parliament Committee for protection of human rights. They protest out of solidarity with Levan and Kakhi Terashvili, David Shuikashvili and Shalva Sabashvili whose names were removed from the list, Trend reports.

The strikers consider their release from custody inadmissible because their comrades convicted on the same case are still remaining in prison, the convicts’ letter spread by the “Georgian party” runs.

The protesters appeal to the parliamentary Committee for protection of human rights and civil integration and its Chairperson Eka Beselia asking to interfere into the situation, “Novosti-Georgia” reports.
