Residents of Alexandrovka, Rostov-on-Don, report mass deforestation in the grove

Residents of the micro-district of Alexandrovka, Rostov-on-Don, report active cutting down a great number of trees in Alexandrovka grove which is according to them, one of the few recreation zones in the micro-district. They fear that new apartment houses will be built there instead of a park. Local authorities state that deforestation is legal and construction of a park has started in the grove.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that the residents of Alexandrovka micro-district of Rostov-on-Don objected against deforestation, building fences round the grove and demanded from the municipal authorities to fulfill their promise of building a park in this territory. On July, 29, about forty local residents held a meeting to protect Alexandrovskaya grove. Local authorities insist that development of the grove is carried out on legal grounds which the protesters were informed about during meetings and in 2013 a well-planned park will appear in the grove.
