MCC rejects complaint of Dubrovka victims against investigation

Today, the Board of Appeal of the Moscow City Court (MCC) has recognized the rejection by the investigator to initiate a criminal proceeding against the officials who commanded the storming of the Dubrovka Theatrical Centre in 2002, where hostages were taken by terrorists. The complaint was lodged to the MCC after a similar refusal by the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow.

In October 2012, the Investigatory Committee refused the victims' defence who demanded to bring an action against the commanders of a special operation in 2002. On December 26, 2012, the Lefortovo Court in Moscow declared investigators' idleness as illegal; however, on February 4 the MCC sent the case back for retrial.

On February 27, the Lefortovo Court decided to reject the complaint lodged by the lawyer Igor Trunov, who spoke on behalf of the victims of the special operation, against the inaction of the investigator, saying that there was no reason to believe that the investigator had acted illegally. The court decided that the investigator had not violated the Code of Criminal Procedure. Trunov then sent a new complaint to the MCC asking to overturn the decision of the Lefortovo Court, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Today, the Board of Appeal of the MCC has considered the complaint of Trunov and found the refusal of the investigator refusal to institute criminal proceedings against the security bosses, who carried out the assault of the Theatrical Centre, as legitimate, the RAPSI reports.
