Higher school lifts ban on hijabs in Azerbaijan
Female students of the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy (ASOA) are allowed to attend classes in hijabs, said Gasym Mamedov, the vice-rector of the Academy for educational work.
On April 2, ten students wearing beards and girls wearing hijabs were not let by securities into the ASOA. According to students, they were not let in under the order of the Academy bosses, who had introduced a ban on wearing hijabs and beards, the portal named "Islam Today" reports.
The students were supported by the Centre for Protection of the Freedom of Conscience and Religion (DEVAMM), which stated that the incident was a gross violation of human rights, the "Salamnews" reports.
As a result, the bosses have cancelled, given the general discontent, the ban on wearing hijabs at classes, the "Apa.az" reports.
