Georgian troops go to Afghanistan to participate in the ISAF mission

Two battalions of Armed Forces of Georgia – Nos. 33 and 42 – have left for Afghanistan to take part in the mission of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), said the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on April 3.

"Within the ISAF peacekeeping mission, Georgian soldiers will serve for six months in the US contingent in the Helmand Province," the MoD reports.

The staff of the Georgian battalions is undergoing the final training under the guidance of US and Georgian instructors at the base "Lezernik", the "News-Georgia" reports.

Earlier, in order to participate in the ISAF missions, the servicemen took a six-month-long training at the "Krtsanisi" National Training Centre, the "Georgia Online" reports.
