Diabetics complain about lack of insulin in Stepanakert pharmacies

The residents of Nagorno-Karabakh who suffer from diabetes mellitus complain about the absence of insulin in all the pharmacies of the republic. Those in Stepanakert have confirmed that there were no shipments of insulin for sale since the beginning of January.

In Nagorno-Karabakh insulin is given out to diabetes patients for free in polyclinics. However, at present, it is absent not only there, but also in commercial pharmacies.

"I tried to replace insulin with other medications, but it didn't help. I have to use insulin from the old batch, the shelf life of which has expired; however, this drug helps badly," said Valentina Davidyan, a diabetic from Stepanakert.

Ararat Dadayan, director of a pharmacy in Stepanakert, told the correspondent that insulin is given out by doctor's prescription, but for several months he had not received the drug for sale. According to his data, insulin is absent in Yerevan at the moment.

"All the drugs come to our republic from Armenia. If Armenia has no insulin, then, Nagorno-Karabakh has no insulin either. In April this problem will be solved," said Zoya Lazaryan, the Minister of Public Health of Nagorno-Karabakh.
