Abkhazian president disagrees with the opposition to form a coalition government

At a briefing on March 28, Christian Bzhaniya, the official representative of the president of Abkhazia, voiced out the position of his boss in relation to the demands of the opposition expressed on March 11 at a rally in Sukhumi. The president has rejected all the points of the resolution adopted by the rally.

On March 11, during a rally held in Sukhumi, Raul Khajimba, an opposition leader of Abkhazia, demanded from the authorities to form a coalition government and dismiss the current Cabinet. All sixteen points of the demands of the opposition were listed in the protest resolution adopted by the rally.

These points include the following: to immediately begin reforming the state power through redistribution of the authorities of the president and the parliament; to adopt the constitutional laws about removal of the president from office and constitutional proceedings; to provide the parliament with the right to vote no confidence to the general public prosecutor and the chairperson of the National Bank; and to hold an independent financial audit of the National Bank.

In case of non-fulfilment within a month of the above demands, the opposition "reserves the right to start, under the Constitution, the procedure of impeaching the president."

According to Christian Bzhaniya, President Alexander Ankvab has closely studied each of the points and rejected all of them.
