A book devoted to torture in prisons “Georgia Salvaged” presented in Tbilisi

A book “Georgia Salvaged” devoted to the situation in Georgian prisons on the eve of the parliamentary election of 2012 was presented in Tbilisi. Its author is Roman Finn, writer, scientist, founder and Director of Canadian Institute for studies of the Soviet Union (Russia) and the countries of Eastern Europe (1981-2005).

Presenting his book on March, 21, Finn said that “Georgia Salvaged” was written in the beginning of 2013 and published for the first time. It consists of 145 pages. 500 copies all in all were published in Russian and soon the book will be translated into English and Georgian.

The pre-election situation and activities of political forces in Georgia that resulted in the victory of the “Georgian Dream” electoral block at the parliamentary election of 2012 are analyzed in the book.

“Why “Georgia Salvaged”? Who from? The book was born just after the election of October, 1, 2012. The point is that I like many other people was shaken by the scenes of tortures filmed in Gldan prison. After that Saakashvili’s authority was destroyed”, the writer said.

“I do not know whether the Russian version of the book will be popular but as for the Georgian one, I am sure it will become a hit”, professor of Tbilisi State University Nani Chanishvili declared.
