At the trial on attack on Nalchik prosecution asks to leave 53 defendants in custody
At the trial at the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria on the case of an armed attack on Nalchik in October 2005, the court has asked for another extension of detention of 53 defendants. As stated by advocates in the course of the session, on March 19, two defendants went on hunger strike.
According to the state prosecutor Olga Chibinyova, the circumstances under which the defendants were put behind bars have not changed. They are accused of grave and extremely grave crimes and are a danger to the society, the prosecution party believes.
However, for the first time the prosecutor said that the defendants Kazbek Budtuev, Zalim Ulimbashev, Sergey Kaziev and Anzor Ashev may further stay under recognizance not to leave. Earlier, the state prosecution demanded to place them back into custody.
The lawyers and the defendants opposed the motion to extend their custody.
