Ex-Premier of Georgia Merabishvili interrogated on use of fake passport

Vano Merabishvili, Secretary General of the "United National Movement and the former Prime Minister of Georgia was interrogated in the context of information about his use of a fake passport when crossing the border of Georgia as a member of the presidential delegation. The MIA of Georgia wants to question him again.

On December 1, the MIA of Georgia disseminated a statement that Merabishvili had used a fake passport for going from Georgia to Yerevan as a member of the presidential delegation. According to the Ministry, the passport to the name of a certain Levan Maisuradze had Merabishvili's photo. According to the MIA, the authorities allowed Merabishvili to leave the country in order not to disrupt the state visit, the "News-Georgia" quotes the statement of the MIA.

Mr Merabishvili himself has treated the inquiry launched against him on the fact of an attempt of illegal crossing the border as "absurd" and "passing beyond all limits."

"It's a pity that Ivanishvili (Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") is making use of the MIA and police as a repressive machine against the opposition," the "Georgia Online" quotes Mr Merabishvili as saying.
