Defence of resident of Makhachkala killed at search complain against policemen to Prosecutor's Office

The advocates of Shamil Gasanov, a resident of Makhachkala, who was killed when his flat was searched, have lodged a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan against illegitimate actions of law enforcement bodies. Let us remind you that Shamil Gasanov, 35, a surgeon of the Second City Hospital of Makhachkala, was detained by law enforcers on November 28.

According to the MIA of Dagestan, at night on November 28, when policemen tried to search Gasanov's flat, the latter opened fire and was shot dead by return fire. Investigators opened a criminal case under the articles "Attempt on life of a law enforcer" and "Illegal arms circulation" of the Russia's Criminal Code.

The advocate of the casualty insists that the actions of the policemen during the search were illegal. "Gasanov was in fact detained when he fulfilled his doctor's duties," said Gadjimurad Izmailov, a lawyer from the Bar "Kavkaz".

On that very day, the advocate turned to the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Dagestan asking to let him to take part in the criminal case, under which Gasanov was detained. Izmailov has noted that it is still unknown what the casualty had been suspected of. "An answer from the Prosecutor's Office shall arrive within four days after the appeal," he explained.

Makhach Gochuchaliev, a lawyer and a casualty's relative, does not trust the version of the police that Shamil Gasanov was killed by return fire.
