Feminists hold march in Tbilisi

Today, Tbilisi has hosted a march of feminists dated to the International Women's Day. The action was attended by about 40 persons.

The rally was organized by the NGO "Independent Group of Feminists!" that brought the participants together through the social network Facebook. With the slogans "You are not a slave!" "Conquer patriarchy, throw off its shackles!", "My body is not your property!", "No one has right to interfere in women's private lives!", "Silence won't protect!" and "I don't want flowers – I want rights!" the protesters marched towards the City Philharmonic Society.

Iya Bakhtadze, a member of the independent group of feminists, said that they had been holding such events for the third year in a row. According to her story, so far emancipation of women still exists only on paper. Therefore, in her opinion, it is important that "women demand to protect their rights not on paper but in real life."

Keti Bakhatashvili, one of the participants of the action, said she came to the rally "in order to express her position." "Georgia has a lot of problems; and I want women to be freer and more independent. In Georgia, only one association dominates: the woman is a mother and housewife. I want to stop it and make them think otherwise!"

Marie Kapanadze, a student, believes that encroachment on women's rights is not only a Georgia's problem. "Women have more power and potential than they got used to say. Therefore, today we once again want to stress our rights!"
