Murzaev: I was beaten before presenting the report on corruption in Northern Caucasus
Absalitdin Murzaev, the head of the Board of Elders of the Kumyk Nation, who was beaten on March 3 in Dagestan, was to make a report, on March 18, at the administration of the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian Federation to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), on corruption in land issues in Northern Caucasus. The attack could have to do with the presentation of the report, Mr Murzaev has supposed.
"Murzaev has brain concussion, fractures of his left arm, numerous bruises and head haematomas. The traumas correspond to the average degree of gravity. He is now receiving a full-scale therapy," said Sergey Khalidov, his attending physician.
According to Absalitdin Murzaev himself, his attackers drove to his house in a silver "Priora" car with clubs in their hands.
"Young guys of sportive body-build in masks and clubs in hands jumped out of the "Priora". They rushed to me; I tried to get into my yard; however, I received a strong blow on my head with a club; and I fell down. The guys began beating me, trying to hit my head; therefore, I covered my head with hands. Then, I fainted and recovered already at home," Mr Murzaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The attackers disappeared after the neighbours paid attention to the noise and cries, said AbsalitdinMurzaev.
