Students boycott lessons in protest against election outcomes in Armenia

The emotions of the students' strike in Armenia are getting beyond borders, said Armen Ashotyan, Minister of Education and Sciences, and called the organizers to admit that their action has failed.

The organizers who acted via the Facebook called to hold the action on February 23, two days prior to announcement of the election results: "We, the sons of Armenia, demand to nullify the falsified election and hold it anew. That is why we hereby announce a termless strike."

By February 26, a total of 1962 users of the social network had joined the action, but in fact about 200 persons went on strike. "We've gone out to fight for our future, since the country, where elections are falsified, has no future," Gor M., a striker, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

A number of Facebook users have supported the organizers; others call not to distract those who prefer to study, not to go to politics.

Ashot Markaryan and Gagik Vartanyan, the students of the Medical University, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they would not go striking. "Our parents pay huge money for our training: 2000 US dollars per year," said Markaryan.
