"Chechen Mothers for Peace" holds action to support women, who lost their family members

The action, which was held on November 29, in Grozny by the public non-commercial organization "Chechen Mothers for Peace", was attended by about 200 women, who lost their family members and who did not know anything about their fate.

The event was scheduled for November 25, the Mother's Day; however, the Mayoralty of Grozny gave permission to hold the action only today. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Madina Magomadova, the leader of the NGO "Chechen Mothers for Peace".

During the action, in the square near the House of Press, an ambulance and a police squad were on duty.

According to Madina Magomadova, the purpose of such actions is to draw public attention to the problems that, despite the termination of hostilities in Chechnya, have not yet been resolved. "Missing people have not been found. We do not know where remains of their bodies were buried. We do not hold rallies, and at such actions, no one delivers any speeches, and there are no banners and posters. Women come here and hold in their hands portraits that are more eloquent that any words. The portraits are the photographs of their sons, husbands, and brothers, who disappeared during the period from 1995," she said.
