A schoolgirl in Stavropol is not let into class with hijab on, the girl's father reported

A schoolgirl wearing hijab in the khutor of Privolny, Stavropol region, has not been allowed to attend classes wearing hijab, her parents state. Press Service of the Ministry of education explained that the schoolgirl was violating the charter of the educational institution which established demands to the pupils' appearance.

The parents of one of the schoolgirls in the khutor of Privolny, Stavropol region, appealed to Public Prosecutor's office complaining that their daughter could not attend classes with hijab on. "Today we sent the girl to school by bus. Senior teacher put her back into the bus and took her home. She has not been let into class because of hijab for already two weeks", "Interfax" quotes the girl's father Rizak Rizakov.

Rizakov said that the teachers reasoned their decision by the Governor's enactment. "My daughter is a third former. Other children do not ware hijabs at this school. There were three girls who wore scarves but now they have taken them off", he said adding that his daughter wore a hijab at school since September, 1.

The schoolgirl is violating the charter of the educational institution establishing standards of the pupils' appearance, Press Service of the Ministry of Education of Stavropol region explained.

According to the Ministry, in case if the parents put obstacles to observance of these standards in the future they will be suggested to choose another form of education for their daughter, "Russian News Service" reports.

"The pupils' dress-code must comply with secular basis of the educational institutions"

"Education in our secular country must remain secular, either. The school is no place for demonstration of these or those religious customs", Governor of Stavropol region Valery Zerenkov clarified his position earlier.

He also pointed out that the pupils' clothing should comply with secular basis of the educational institutions, a message on the web-site of the Governor of Stavropol region runs.

The regional authorities suggested to enact a unified school uniform in all the schools of the region since December, 20.

"The everyday pupils' uniform includes: for girls a jacket, a waistcoat, a skirt or a sundress of neutral colours, a non-transparent blouse bolow the waist fitting the color gamma, a dress of different colour designs with possible addition of a black apron, removable collar, a tie (recommended length of dresses and skirts: no shorter than 10 cm above the upper border of the knee and not shorter than the middle of the leg), resolution of the regional Government "On adoption of basic standards of school uniform and appearance of pupils of state general educational institutions of Stavropol region" runs.

The resolution also specifies that pupils of educational institutions are prohibited wearing religious attire or one with religious attributes and symbolic as well as headgears.
