Georgian Association for Human Rights Defense demands to arrest Eduard Shevardnadze

Members of the NGO Association for Human Rights Defense held a protest rally at the Krtsanisi government residence on March 1. They demanded that criminal proceedings should be instituted against Georgian ex-president Eduard Shevardnadze and he should be arrested.

"Shevardnadze is to blame that Georgia has bogged down in corruption, that its territorial has been broken. Shevardnadze is to blame that the young men who took part in a hijacking and did not want to live under the Soviet system were shot dead in 1985," president of the Association Giorgy Kervalishvili said to journalists.

Kervalishvili also blames Shevardnadze for the death of the first Georgian president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the physical destruction of Merab Kostava, treason, the creation of mafia clans and other grave crimes.

Participants in the action called upon the Prosecutor General to institute criminal proceedings against Eduard Shevardnadze.
