In Batumi, Russian citizen detained after his visit to Abkhazia

In Batumi, the Border Police have detained Valentin Kistanov, a Russian citizen, for violating the rules of entry to the territories, which Georgia considers to be occupied.

The detainee entered the territory of Adzharia from the territory of Abkhazia. According to the Border Police, the detention occurred on November 25; however, the media reported on the incident only on November 27.

The fact is being investigated by Part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (entry to occupied territory by a citizen of another country or a stateless person in violation of the Law of Georgia "On occupied territories"). Investigation is being carried out by the Investigatory and Operational Department of the Chief Department of Batumi, the "Georgia Online" reports.

For violation of the above Article of the Criminal Code of Georgia, Russian citizen Valentin Kistanov faces a fine or 2-4 years of imprisonment face, the IA "News-Georgia" reports.
