Mayor’s office of Maikop did not authorize a meeting in support of Syrian Cherkessians
Municipal Administration of Maikop dismissed a request of civil movement “Adyge Khase – Cherkessian Parliament” of Adygeya to authorize a mass meeting in support of Syrian Cherkessians on November, 25, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.
It should be reminded that the Cherkessians of different countries of the World were planning mass meetings and pickets on November, 24 and 25, within the framework of a worldwide action of solidarity with the Cherkessians of Syria. The actions were planned in Russia, the USA, Turkey, Australia, Germany, Israel and Jordan, a representative of the initiative group of the action informed. The reason for the action was a disastrous situation of Syrian Cherkessians whose settlements regularly undergo bombing.
At 15:00, November, 16, the civil movement “Adyge Khase – Cherkessian Parliament” submitted a request of authorizing the meeting in Lenin square to the municipal Administration of Maikop. The action was planned from 14:00 till 16:00, November, 25. No less than 1500 people were expected to take part in it.
The municipal Administration refused authorization of the action explaining that the request was submitted 9 days before the desired date, Adam Bogus, leader of the movement “Adyge Khase – Cherkessian Parliament”, reported.
“According to the law, a request must be submitted 10 days before an action. The Administration did not consider the day of submission but we did. So, there was a divergency in calculations”, Bogus added.
The refusal of Maikop Administration is an arguable one, lawyer Musa Pliev considers. “In this case the court could dot the i's”, he said adding that the reason for refusal was formal. “We all realize a formal character of this refusal. There is nothing new about the situation”, Pliev concluded.
