Chechen policemen detaining officers of Kadyrov's security service face pressure

Police officers of Chechnya's Shali district interior department face unprecedented pressure on the part of the administration of Chechen President Akhmat Kadyrov, reported officers of this department on terms of anonymity.

This pressure is aimed at preventing them form effective investigation into crimes committed by officers of Kadyrov's security service. On the night of February 9-10, several officers of the republic president's security service were detained by policemen while making an attempt to kidnap a resident of the district center Shali, Vakha Zhanayev, from his own house. Timur Rasuyev, who is suspected of kidnappings, was among those detained. Rasuyev was placed in an isolation ward for temporary detained persons.

However the policemen were to set him free in two days as the Shali district prosecutor's office refused to institute criminal proceedings against him under pressure of the Kadyrov administration. On February 22, a police officer of the Shali district interior department who took part in Rasuyev's detention was savagely beaten by officers of Kadyrov's security service.

One of the officers of the Shali district interior department said to representatives of the Society for Russian-Chechen Friendship, "Even if we manage to detain a criminal from among officers of Kadyrov's security service red-handed, threats begin the next day followed by an order to release the detainee."
